Frequently Asked Questions

How often does IRCC hold Express Entry draws?
IRCC typically holds Express Entry draws every two weeks, alternating between category-based draws (healthcare, STEM, French, trades) and general draws. In 2025–2026, draws have been held bi-weekly with occasional additional draws.
What is the current Express Entry CRS cutoff score?
CRS cutoff scores vary significantly by draw category. General draws typically range from 500–530+, while category-based draws (French, Healthcare, STEM) often have lower cutoffs in the 370–495 range. Check the latest draw above for the most current figure.
What is a category-based Express Entry draw?
Since May 2023, IRCC has been conducting category-based Express Entry draws targeting candidates with specific occupations or language abilities. Categories include French-language proficiency, healthcare workers, STEM professionals, agriculture workers, trade workers, and education sector workers.
Do I need a job offer to get an Express Entry invitation?
No. Most Express Entry candidates do not need a job offer. However, having a valid Canadian job offer adds 50–200 points to your CRS score, significantly improving your chances. Category-based draws may invite candidates with relevant work experience even at lower CRS scores.
How long does Express Entry PR processing take after an ITA?
After receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA), you have 60 days to submit a complete application. IRCC targets processing Express Entry PR applications within 6 months of receiving a complete application.
What happens after I receive an Express Entry ITA?
After receiving an ITA, you must submit a complete permanent residence application within 60 days. You'll need to gather supporting documents, get a medical exam, obtain a police certificate, and pay government fees. A licensed RCIC can help ensure your application is complete and error-free.
Can I improve my CRS score before the next draw?
Yes. Common ways to improve your CRS score include improving your language test scores (IELTS/CELPIP), completing an additional degree, getting a provincial nomination (+600 points), securing a qualifying job offer, or adding a spouse/common-law partner's factors. A licensed RCIC can identify the fastest pathway for your specific profile.
