Canadian Work Experience | No Settlement Funds Required

Canadian Experience Class (CEC) 2025 — PR for Those Already Working in Canada

What is the Canadian Experience Class?

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is an Express Entry program for people who have Canadian work experience. It is designed for temporary foreign workers and international graduates who have built their career in Canada and want to become permanent residents.

Eligibility

You need at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada (NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3) within the last three years. The experience can be full-time (30 hours/week for 12 months) or part-time equivalent (e.g. 15 hours/week for 24 months). The work must have been authorized (you had a work permit).

Language Requirements

NOC 0 or A: Minimum CLB 7 in all four abilities (reading, writing, listening, speaking). NOC B: Minimum CLB 5 in all four abilities. You must take an approved test (IELTS General, CELPIP-G, TEF, TCF).

No Education or Settlement Funds Requirement

CEC does not require a minimum level of education or proof of settlement funds (if you are working in Canada or have a valid job offer). This makes it accessible to many workers already in Canada.

CEC Draws in 2025

IRCC holds Express Entry draws that can include or target CEC candidates. Category-based draws (e.g. French, STEM, healthcare) may also benefit CEC applicants who meet the category. Draw frequency and CRS cutoffs vary. VMC keeps clients informed and advises on the best strategy.

CEC vs FSW

CEC uses Canadian work experience; FSW uses international work experience. CEC has no education or settlement funds requirement; FSW has a 67-point grid and settlement funds (unless exempt). Both are part of Express Entry and use the same CRS for ranking.

How to Maximize CRS as a CEC Candidate

Improve your language test results (higher CLB = more CRS), gain more Canadian work experience, complete a Canadian credential if possible, or apply for a provincial nomination (+600 points). VMC assesses your profile and recommends the best steps to improve your CRS.
