Once you meet CEC eligibility, you create an Express Entry profile and are ranked against other candidates using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS); IRCC then invites top-ranked candidates in regular rounds of invitations.

How is CEC different from FSW?

No. Unlike FSW, CEC does not have a minimum education requirement. Education can still add CRS points in the Express Entry pool, so it helps your ranking.

No. CEC does not require a valid job offer to be eligible. Since March 25, 2025, IRCC no longer awards CRS points for a job offer in Express Entry ranking, so a job offer is not required for eligibility or points.

Yes. Skilled work performed while on a valid Post-Graduation Work Permit counts toward the CEC one-year experience requirement, provided it meets the NOC TEER level, hours, and authorization conditions. Many international graduates qualify for CEC this way after working in Canada on their PGWP.

IRCC classifies occupations under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) using TEER (Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities) categories 0 through 5. CEC only counts work in TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 - roughly management, professional, technical, and skilled trade or paraprofessional occupations. TEER 4 and 5 occupations (most entry-level and elemental jobs) do not qualify toward the CEC one-year experience requirement.

Does part-time work count toward the one-year CEC experience requirement?
